eG Monitoring

Measures reported by LinuxPrinterStTest

This test enables administrators to monitor the status of the printers that are configured on the target host system. This test reports the status of the scheduler using which administrators can promptly be alerted whenever the scheduler is not running. This test also reports the count of printers that are currently active, disabled, idle and those that are accepting printing requests. By carefully analyzing the metrics reported by this test, administrators can figure out the printers that are responsible for an overload condition with respect to the printing process.

Outputs of the test: One set of results for the target host system being monitored.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Scheduler_status Indicates the status of the scheduler.

The print scheduler, lpsched, handles print requests on print servers. However, there might be times when the print scheduler stops running on a system, so print requests stop being accepted or printed.

The values that this measure can report and its corresponding numeric equivalents are listed in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Not Running 0
Running 1

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate current status of the scheduler. In the graph of this measure however, the same is represented using the corresponding numeric equivalents only.

Total_config_printers Indicates the number of printers configured in the target system. Number

Use the detailed diagnosis to identify the Printer name.

Accept_printers Indicates the number of printers that are currently accepting printing requests. Number

The detailed diagnosis provides the Printer name, and time since the printer is in accepting mode.

Active_printers Indicates the number of printers that are currently active. Number

If all the active printers are not accepting printing requests, then there might be an issue like jobs taking too much time process or jobs are waiting for more time.

Use the detailed diagnosis to identify the Printer name.

Disable_printers Indicates the number of printers that are disabled. Number

Use the detailed diagnosis to identify the Printer name and Disabled reason.

Idle_printers Indicates the number of printers that are idle. Number

The possible cause of the printer status “Idle” error could be the problems with your printer driver. If your printer driver is missing or corrupted this issue could happen. Another reason for this issue is the issue with your printer spooler. It could also be even some malware issues prevailing in your computer which makes your printer go "Idle" all of a sudden and it could also be some network issues.

Use the detailed diagnosis to identify the Printer name.

Active_printer_pct Indicates the percentage of active printers. Percent
