Measures reported by MLXPSSensorTest

The Mellanox switch comes with multiple redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. The primary and backup power supplies units are internal but removable to allow easier maintenance and replacement. This switch also supports power load-sharing for PoE between the primary and backup power supplies.

Proper functioning of the power supplies is crucial to the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the switch. This is why, administrators should be absolutely certain at all times that the power supplies are working seamlessly. If any of the power supplies fail or is not plugged in properly or encounter voltage fluctuations, then operations of the target switch will get affected or even come to halt. To avoid such anomalies, administrators should continuously monitor the power supplies for abnormalities (if any) to initiate corrective actions before the abnormalities affect the operations of the target switch. The Mellanox Power Supplies test helps administrators in this regard!

This test auto-discovers the power supply units in the Melanox Power supply switch, and reports the current status and voltage for each power supply. Using these metrics, administrators can easily identify if there is any abnormality detected in any of the powers supply units before it can affect the functioning of the switch.

Outputs of the test: One set of result for each power supply in the switch.

Descriptor: Power Supply

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
SensorValue Indicates the power in volts passing through power supply. Volts

If the value of power supply voltage is lower tahn normal, there could be an issue.

OperationalStatus Indicates the operational status of volatge sensor to denote if the sensor is working or not.

The values reported by this measure and its numeric equivalent are mentioned in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Ok 1
Unavailable 2
Non operational 3

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current status of this fan. The graph of this measure, however, represents the status of the fan using the numeric equivalents only.
