SAP HANA system can be configured in a single container database system or multiple container system. To set up tenant databases, your system should be configured in multiple container mode. When you install SAP HANA system in multiple container mode, you can setup multiple isolated databases in single SAP HANA system. This is called Multitenant database containers. When SAP HANA system is installed in multiple container mode, only the system database is created initially. Tenant databases are created by the administrator and then later it can be configured.

You can also covert a single container HANA system to multiple container databases HANA system. In multiple container HANA system, each database runs on the same infrastructure and uses the same computing resources. However, each database contains following components -

  • Database Users

    • Repository

      • Catalog

        • Backups

          • Traces and Logs

            • Persistence

            • All the database objects - tables, schemas, database views, SQL procedures - are separate for each database. You can also perform cross-database functions in multitenant database. To ensure the overall performance and stability of a multiple-container SAP HANA system, it is very important to monitor all the tenant databases in the system. HANA Tenant Status Test helps administrators in this regard!

This test auto-discovers each tenant databases on the SAP HANA database server and reports whether/not the tenant database is active. The detailed diagnosis of this test shed light on the details of the inactive tenant database.

Outputs of the test: One set of results for every Tenant database on the SAP HANA database server being monitored

              Descriptor: Tenant database

The measures made by this test are as follows:

              Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
ActiveStatus Indicates whether/not this tenant database is active.

If the tenant database is active, this measure will report the value Yes. If it is not active, then this measure will report the value No.The numeric values that correspond to the measure values are as follows:

              Measure Value Numeric Value
              Yes 1
              No 0

              Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values in the table above to indicate whether/not the tenant database is active. However, in the graph of this measure, the same is represented using the numeric equivalents only.

Use the detailed diagnosis of this measure to know the active status details of the tenant database.
