Measures reported by ARSWTempSenTest

Arista switch includes a number of internal temperature sensors which varies based on the model of the switch. Each sensor is assigned specific temperature thresholds for critical components of the switch such as CPU, fans, front external panel etc.

Temperature values that exceed the temperature threshold of the sensor trigger the following:

  • All fans run at maximum speed and a warning message is logged when the temperature exceeds Alert Threshold.

  • The component is shut down immediately and its Status LED flashes orange when the temperature of the critical component exceeds Critical Threshold.

In modular systems, cards are shut down when their temperature exceeds the critical threshold. The switch is shut down if the temperature remains above the critical threshold for three minutes.

A shut down of the switch is an expensive operation in mission-critical environments. Frequent shut down of the switch may lead to loss of business and reliability. To avert such inadversities, it is essential to keep track on the temperature sensors and figure out the temperature sensors that are registering abnormal temperatures. The ARSWTempSenTest helps administrators in this regard!

This test monitors the temperature recorded by each temperature sensor of the target switch and alerts administrators to the exact hardware component (associated with the temperature sensor) that is faulty.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for each temperature sensor og the target Arista Switch

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
tSensor Indicates the current temperature registered by this temperature sensor. Celsius An abnormally high temperature could be indicative of a faulty hardware component associated with the temperature sensor.
