Measures reported by F10PortTest

The Dell Force10 switch contains multiple ports on its stack units to deliver reliability and scalability for data centers and edge switching applications. Connections to the target switch are established through the ports. If one or more ports are down/non-operational for a brief period, all connections to the target switch will get suspended. It is hence imperative that the administrators be promptly alerted when the ports start behaving abnormally so that, remedial measures can be initiated instantaneously to avoid a prolonged port outage. The F10PortTest test monitors the admin and operational state of the ports in every stack unit, and sends out proactive alerts to potential performance anomalies.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Port_admin_status Indicates the current admin status of this port on this stack unit.   The values reported by this measure and its numeric equivalents are mentioned in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Up 1
Down 2

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current status of this port. The graph of this measure however, represents the status of the port using the numeric equivalents only.

Port_oper_status Indicates the current operational status of this port on this stack unit.   The values reported by this measure and its numeric equivalents are mentioned in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
NotPresent 0
Ready 1
PortDown 2
PortProblem 3
CardProblem 4
CardDown 5

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current operational status of each port. The graph of this measure however, represents the operational status of the stack unit using the numeric equivalents only.
