Measures reported by UDPPortListenerTest

Some UDP ports on the PVS server are more critical than the rest. For instances, target devices connect to UDP Port 69 (over TFTP) on Citrix PVS to stream virtual disks. If this port is unavailable, then virtual disk streaming cannot happen! Likewise, when a target device is powered on, as part of its boot process, the device communicates with DHCP server via UDP port 67, so that the DHCP server can allocate standard/basic network configuration values (eg., IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Server(s)) to the target device. If UDP port 67 is not available, then target devices may even fail to boot.

To make sure that target devices are able to communicate with PVS and function without a glitch, it is necessary to keep tabs on the availability of these two UDP ports - 69 and 67, promptly detect their unavailability, and rapidly resolve the problem. This is where the UDPPortListenerTest test helps!

By default, this test monitors the UDP ports 67 and 69 on Citrix PVS at regular intervals, and promptly alerts administrators if these ports are already in use. You can also easily configure this test to check the availability of any other UDP port that you think is critical to the uninterrupted use of PVS.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for every TARGETPORT configured.

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Availability Indicates whether/not this UDP port is available. Percent If the configured port is available, then this measure will report the value 100. If the value of this measure is 0, it means that the port is unavailable/inaccessible.
