eG Monitoring

Performing a Remote Control Action

This page appears:

  • When an agent in the Normal or Waiting modes in the Remote Control page is clicked, or,

  • When the Remote Control button in the Measurements section of the page displaying the layer model, tests, and measurements of a component, is clicked

This page displays the Agent IP / Nick name and its current mode of operation, which is Control Mode.

Now, specify the following:

  1. From the Command list box, select the command to be executed remotely. By default, the Command list contains a set of pre-configured, ready-to-use commands. If need be, administrators can add more commands to the list using the Remote Control Commands option in the eG administrative interface. If the command to be executed is already available in the Command list, select it, and specify the Arguments (if any), that may be supported by the chosen command. If the command to be used does not pre-exist in the Command list, you will be faced with the following options:

    (a) First, add the command to the pre-configured command list (using the Remote Control Commands option in the eG administrative interface), and then select that command from the Command list, OR,

    (b) Directly issue the command using this page

  2. Whether you choose option (a) or (b) depends upon the remote control rights that were granted to you by the administrator, while creating your profile using the eG administrative interface. If you have the right to execute Any command remotely, then you can exercise option (b). For such users therefore, eG Enterprise provides an Other option in the Command list in this page. You can select this option, and then provide the Command description (i.e., the syntax of the command to be directly executed on the command host).

On the other hand, if your profile allows you to choose from the pre-configured command list only, then you have to opt for (a). For such users therefore, the Command list in this page will not include the Other option.

    Note:

To define the remote control privileges of a user, follow the steps given below:

    • Login to the eG administrative interface as admin.
    • To create a new user with remote control rights, click on the icon available in the Admin tab. Then, select the Add User option in the User Management tile.
    • While providing the new user details, remember to Enable the Remote control flag in the Add User - User Preferences page. This will bring up a Remote command execution list. To allow the new user to execute any command remotely on an agent host, select the Any Commands option from the Remote command execution list. To force the user to select from the pre-configured command list, select the Configured commands only option. Finally, update the new user's profile.
    • To grant the above-mentioned right to an existing user, click on the icon available in the Admin tab. Then, select the Modify User option in the User Management tile.
    • Select the user whose profile is to be modified, and then Enable the Remote control flag for the user in the Modify User - User Preferences page. Once the Remote command execution list comes up, select the Any Commands option to allow the existing user to execute any command remotely on an agent host. To force the user to select from the pre-configured command list, select the Configured commands only option. Finally, update the user's profile.
  3. Then, set the value of Output required to Yes to view the output of the specified command. Otherwise, select No.

  4. Then, enter the Timeout period (in seconds). This is the duration for which the eG manager will wait for an output from the agent for the specified command. Upon the expiry of the period, the command execution will be automatically terminated.

  5. Finally, execute the command by clicking on the Execute button.
