Measures reported by EsxMgmtAgentTest

A Management agent is a software agent that runs on a managed node (example: a router) and provides an interface to manage it. It can perform operations on managed objects in the node and can also forward notifications to the manager. The agent software usually resides in the flash memory of telecommunications devices.

This test tracks the memory resources consumed by various management agents like hostd, vpxd, etc., that are running on the ESXi / VDi servers.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Memory_used Indicates the amount of memory that is utilized. MB Ideally, the value of this measure should be low.
Swap_In_Rate Indicates the amount of memory that is swapped in for the service console. Mbps A high rate of swap ins and swap outs could be indicative of a memory contention on the host.
Swap_Out_Rate Indicates the amount of memory that is swapped out for the service console. Mbps
Swap_used Indicates the amount of memory that is swapped by all the powered-on VMs on the host. Mbps This counter reflects the total amount of VMkernel swap usage on the host. In almost any scenario, this counter should be at or close to zero as VMkernel memory swapping is used as a last resort. Significant or consistent memory swapping indicates that ESX host memory is severely overcommitted and that performance degradation is imminent or actively occurring.
