Aggregates Tab page of the Segment/Service/Zone dashboard

This page appears when the Aggregates Tab in a Segment/Service/Zone dashboard is clicked.

Note:

The Aggregates Tab page will appear in the Segment/Service/Zone dashboard only when an aggregate component is created based on a component that is currently associated with the Segment/Service/Zone.

Whenever the overall performance of an application degrades, then the performance of the dependent service(s)/segments/zones will also be affected. For a chosen service/segment/zone, the Aggregates Tab page serves as a central console for an administrator where he/she can quickly compare critical host as well as application level metrics captured in real-time from across the aggregate components that were engaged in the delivery of that service/segment/zone.

This centralized view of the performance of all systems associated with a service/segment/zone helps administrators quickly detect abnormalities experienced by critical applications associated with the service/segment/zone.

Once a service/segment/zone is chosen from the tree-structure in the left panel, all aggregate Component Types associated with that service/segment/zone will be listed in the Aggregates Tab page irrespective of their states.

For each Aggregate Component Type, critical metrics configured by the user will be listed against each aggregate component under the column Components. Some of the metrics that are displayed as a percentage value will have an additional battery bar indicating the actual value of the measure; this representation makes it easy for the administrator to visualize the values at a single glance. This view allows you a quick glance at the overall performance of the service/segment/zone at a single glance, thereby enabling you to receive a heads up on serious errors affecting the service/segment/zone. Clicking on a component here will lead you to the layer model page of that component, where the problem layer, test, and measures are revealed.

Note:

If no measures are available for a particular component or if the measure is irrelevant for a particular component, then a hyphen (-) symbol will appear in the corresponding measure column.

By default, the contents of the Aggregates Tab page is sorted based on the state of the aggregate components listed therein in the service/segment/zone. If more than one aggregate component exists in the same state, then the aggregate components of that state will be sorted in alphabetical order. If need be, you can change the sort order. For example, if you wish to sort the aggregate components listed in the Aggregates tab page in the descending order of the values of their CPU Utilization, just click on the CPU Utilization label. Doing so, tags the CPU Utilization label with a down arrow icon - this icon indicates that the Aggregates tab page is currently sorted in the descending order of the total disk space used by each component. To change the sort order to ‘ascending’, all you need to do is just click again on the CPU Utilization label or the down arrow icon. Similarly, you can sort the Aggregates tab page based on any column available in the table.

You can, if required, override the default measure list in the Aggregates Tab page by adding more critical measures to the list or by removing one/more existing ones from the list. For this, do the following:

  • Click on the icon provided near the Back button. The SETTINGS drop down window will then appear.
  • Selecting Aggregates against the Tabs flag will help you add/delete metrics for the Aggregates Tab page.
  • To add more metrics to the Aggregates tab page, first, select the Add option against the Add/Delete Measures flag.
  • Next, pick the Component Type, Layer and Test of your interest. Then, pick the measure of your interest from the Measure list.
  • By default, the Does the test have descriptors? flag is set to No. Set this flag to Yes, if the chosen Test reports metrics for each descriptor. While displaying values for descriptor-based measures in the Aggregates tab page, the eG Enterprise system does not display the actual values per descriptor. Instead, the solution computes the average or the total sum of values across descriptors and displays it in the corresponding measure column. For instance, for values reported as percentages, the solution computes the average value across descriptors. On the other hand, if the value is reported as a GB or MB, then the total sum of all the descriptor values of the component will be displayed against the component. If you wish to average the values across descriptors, set the Function flag to Average. By default, the Function flag will be set to Sum indicating that the values will be computed as a total sum across descriptors.
  • If you want to delete one/more measures from this section, then, as soon as you choose the Delete option from the Add/Delete Measures flag, the Test drop down list will be populated with all the existing tests for which measures are displayed. Pick a Test and choose a Measure of your interest to delete from the Aggregates Tab page.
Note:

Only a user who is assigned the Admin role is allowed to customize the service/segment/zone dashboard by clicking on the icon.
