Thin Client - Wyse Report
In recent times, the Wyse thin client has gained prominence as one of the the most optimized solutions for Citrix ICA, Microsoft RDP, and VMware VDI environments. This ultra-thin operating system boots in seconds, automatically updates itself, and delivers the administrative simplicity that IT needs. Owing to this and many more reasons, a large number of Citrix environments these days have begun to rely on Wyse thin clients to gain quick, secure, and easy access to the user desktops published on Citrix servers. With the surge in popularity of the Wyse thin client, comes an inevitable increase in management difficulties. Besides monitoring ICA and RDP connections, administrators of large Citrix environments now have to observe the user traffic generated by Wyse thin clients too, so that they always know who accessed which Citrix server from where.
To ease the burden of these administrators, the Thin Client report category of eG Reporter now enables the generation of specialized Wyse Reports. This report provides administrators with details of Wyse clients who connected to chosen Citrix servers during a specified timeline, so that the administrators are able to exercise more control over the interactions between Wyse clients and Citrix servers, and can also quickly identify which Wyse client had connected to a Citrix server at a time when a problem was detected with the server. This report also helps administrators understand Wyse device inventory.
To generate a Wyse report, do the following:
Follow the menu sequence: Thin Client -> Wyse.
THIN CLIENT REPORTS-WYSE page then appears.
From THIN CLIENT REPORTS-WYSE page, first, select the Component Type for which the report is to be generated. Currently, the options available are: Citrix XenApp and Citrix MF XP.
Then, select a criterion for analysis from the Analysis By list box. Using this report, you can analyze the communication between Wyse clients and one/more independent Citrix servers, or between Wyse clients and one/more Citrix servers that are part of a segment, service, or zone. The options provided by the Analysis By list box are discussed hereunder:
Component: Select this option to choose the component(s) from across all the managed components of the chosen Component Type. For instance, for a report on the Wyse clients that connected to all Citrix XenApp servers in the environment, select Citrix XenApp from the the Component Type list, select Component from the Analysis By list, and then select all the Citrix XenApp servers listed in the Component list .
Service: Select this option if the components for which a report is to be generated are involved in the delivery of a business service. Then, select a Service.
Segment: Choose this option if the Citrix servers to be evaluated are part of a segment. Then, pick a Segment for analysis.
Zone: Pick this option for a report on the traffic generated by Wyse clients on Citrix servers that are included in a zone. Then, choose a Zone. Also, indicate whether the Citrix servers present within the sub-zones of the chosen zone are also to be to be considered for report generation, by selecting an option from the Include subzone list.
Based on the criterion chosen from the Analysis By list, the Component list will be populated. Select one/more of the listed components to generate a report.
Then, from the Sort By list, select the column by which the report is to be sorted.
If the timeline specified for the report needs to exclude the data collected during the Weekends, then set Exclude weekends to Yes. If not, select No.
Note:
By default, the weekend constitutes Saturday and Sunday. To override this default setting, do the following:
Edit the eg_report.ini file in the <EG_INSTALL_DIR>\manager\config directory.
In the [Wyse Report] section of the file, the EXCLUDE_WEEKEND parameter is set to Saturday,Sunday by default. You can modify this by setting the EXCLUDE_WEEKEND parameter to a comma-separated list of other days of the week - say Friday,Saturday.
Save the file after making the required changes.
Next, indicate the report Timeperiod.
Then, specify the Timeline for the graph. You can either provide a fixed time line such as 1 hour, 2 days, etc., or select the Any option from the list to provide a From and To date/time for report generation.
Finally, click the SUBMIT button to generate the report.
A page will then appears revealing the details of all Wyse clients who connected to the chosen Citrix servers during the given timeline. The details include the system name, description, serial number, IP address of the client, MACs, and the last time the Wyse client accessed the chosen server(s).
