Measures reported by ClariionHBATest

A storage area network (SAN) is a specialized high speed network that connects computer systems, or host servers to high performance storage subsystems. The SAN components include

  • host bus adapters (HBAs) in the host servers,
  • switches that help route storage traffic,
  • cables,
  • storage processors (SPs) and
  • storage disk arrays.
  • A host bus adapter (HBA) is a circuit board and/or integrated circuit adapter that provides input/output (I/O) processing and physical connectivity between a server and a storage device. Because the HBA relieves the host microprocessor of both data storage and retrieval tasks, it can improve the server's performance time. An HBA and its associated disk subsystems are sometimes referred to as a disk channel.

Using this test, you can verify whether the HBA ports are currently connected to the fibre channel or not, and identify ports that are not trusted or defined.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

    Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Logged_in Indicates whether this port is logged into the storage system or not.   This measure reports the value Yes if the port is logged into the storage system, and No if it is not.

The numeric values that correspond to each of the states discussed above are as follows:

    Numeric Value State
    0 No
    1 Yes

    Note:

By default, this measure reports the States listed in the table above to indicate the logged in status of an HBA port. The graph of this measure however, represents logged in states using the numeric equivalents - 0 and 1.

You can use the detailed diagnosis of this measure to view additional details about the HBA.
Trusted Indicates whether/not the HBA port is trusted.   This measure reports the value Yes if the port is trusted, and No if it is not.

The numeric values that correspond to each of the states discussed above are as follows:

    Numeric Value State
    0 No
    1 Yes

    Note:

By default, this measure reports the States listed in the table above to indicate the trust status of an HBA port. The graph of this measure however, represents trust states using the numeric equivalents - 0 and 1.
Defined Indicates whether / not the HBA port is defined.   This measure reports the value Yes if the port is defined, and No if it is not.

The numeric values that correspond to each of the states discussed above are as follows:

    Numeric Value State
    0 No
    1 Yes

    Note:

By default, this measure reports the States listed in the table above to indicate the defined status of an HBA port. The graph of this measure however, represents defined states using the numeric equivalents - 0 and 1.
