INVENTORY : SERVICE AVAILABILITY/UNAVAILABILITY Administrators of large, mission-critical infrastructures typically labor hard and long to figure out whether the services critical to the functioning of their servers are currently available or not. For instance, if a Windows system is to be called 'web-enabled', then the Server, Browser, and Workstation services should be available on such systems. To identify the 'web-enabled' systems and those that are yet to be 'web-enabled', an administrator would have to manually browse the 'Services' window of each system and determine the same; this is both time-consuming and cumbersome. The INVENTORY : SERVICE AVAILABILITY/UNAVAILABILITY page on the other hand, greatly simplifies this task by revealing, at a single glance, the systems on which a chosen service is available and/or unavailable.
This page can be accessed by the following menu sequence, Inventory->Availability/Unavailability->Service field.
Note:
This page will also appear, when a software displayed in the Top-N Installed Services section of the Home page is clicked; in such a case, this page will indicate the availability/unavailability of the service that was clicked on.
To view the availability and unavailability of a specific service, do the following:
- Select an operating system(OS) from the Operating System list. To set the desired OS to be displayed by default in this page, use the menu sequence Settings->Display, and provide the required OS name in the Operating System for Software/Service/Hotfix availability page.
- Now, select the desired service from the Service Name and select the All option from the Show list. Finally, click on the SUBMIT button.
- Doing so will display a bar graph, depicting the availability of specified services in the systems that have the chosen OS installed.
- Below this graph, you will also see a table providing the entire list of systems on which the chosen service is available and/or unavailable.
- Clicking on the specified service name will take you to the INVENTORY BY SYSTEM page, which provides the basic configuration of that chosen system.
- To view the list of all the services installed on all the systems executing on a specific OS, select an OS from the Operating System list, select the All option from Service Name, and select the All option from the Show list. By default, the All option will be selected from the Service Name and from the Show lists. Finally click on the SUBMIT button. Doing so will display a bar graph depicting the availability of all the services installed on a specificied OS. Below this graph you will also see a table providing the entire list of systems on which each service is currently available/unavailable. Clicking on a system name will take you to the INVENTORY BY SYSTEM page, which provides the basic configuration of that chosen system.
