Configuring Monitoring of Specific Queues/Channels on an IBM MQ Server

IBM MQ servers typically handle numerous queues and channels. As monitoring each and every one of these is an arduous task,  The eG system allows an administrator to monitor groups of queues and channels. These groups need to be manually configured on the IBM MQ servers.

To configure the groups of queues, do the following:

  1. Click on the Click here hyperlink above the Test Parameters section of the Configuration of  MQLocalQueueTest page.

  2. The page that appears next lists the groups that pre-exist (if any) and allows the administrator to create and configure new ones / delete existing ones.

  3. To delete any of the listed groups, click on the DELETE button against the corresponding group.

  4. To modify any of the listed groups, click on the MODIFY button against the corresponding group.

  5. To add a new group, first select the queues that need to be a part of the group. The ALL ELEMENTS list in this page will list all the unmanaged queues. All the queues hosted on an IBM MQ server are discovered when the agent starts executing on the server's host. These queues will be listed as ALL ELEMENTS. This list will get updated every time the agent is restarted / when the rediscovery scheduled for every four hours occurs.

  6. To manage a queue, just select the same from the ALL ELEMENTS list, click on the MANAGE button and add it to the MANAGED ELEMENTS IN THE CURRENT GROUP list. Similarly, multiple queues can be added to the MANAGED ELEMENTS IN THE CURRENT GROUP list.

  7. To unmanage managed queues, select them from the MANAGED ELEMENTS IN THE CURRENT GROUP list, click the UNMANAGE button, thereby transferring them back to the ALL ELEMENTS list.

  8. Finally, assign a name to the new group of queues by entering a name in the Info Group Name text box.

  9. Finally, click the UPDATE button.

Clicking on the <<button will take you to the previous screen.

To configure the groups of channels, do the following:

  1. Click on the Click here hyperlink above the Test Parameters section of the Configuration of  MQChannelTest page.

Note:

The eG system monitors only those queues and channels that are part of a group.
