Agents Administration - Tests

External Agents

The eG Enterprise suite allows for multiple external agents to be configured for monitoring the target environment.  By default, one external agent is configured to execute on the same system as the eG server. To access this page, click on the icon available in the Admin tab. Then, select the External Agents option in the Agents tile. The list of external agents that have been configured in the environment is available here.

An external agent can be removed using the icon beside it, and modified using the icon. However, the default external agent on the eG server cannot be deleted or modified. Also, if the agent is assigned a Host, then the icon will appear near the agent name. This indicates that the agent is locked and cannot be deleted using the icon.

To configure a new agent, click on the Add New Agent button. The New External Agent page appears, enter the New IP/Host Name and Nick name in the textbox available near the option. Then, select the Client Emulation and Add as Remote Agents option, and click on the Update button.

Moreover, you can quickly search for a particular external agent by specifying the whole/part of the host/nick name of the agent in the Search text box here. This will display all those external agents which embed the specified search string.

To associate and disassociate hosts to any external agent, click on the Associate/Disassocite Hosts button. This button will lead you to the ASSIGN - EXTERNAL AGENTS page. Then, do the following;

  • From the External agent list, select the external agent for which you want to assign hosts.

  • The hosts that are currently managed by the chosen agent will appear in the HOSTS MANAGED BY THIS AGENT list box. The other hosts, which may be associated with other external agents, appear in the Hosts managed by other external agents list box.

  • To assign the selected external agent to multiple hosts, select the hosts from the HOSTS MANAGED BY OTHER EXTERNAL AGENTS list box and click the < button.

  • To disassociate the external agent from hosts with which they are currently associated, select the hosts from the HOSTS MANAGED BY THIS AGENT list box and click the > button.

  • Finally, click the Update button.

On the other hand, if you want to assign hosts to a particular external agent, click the icon that corresponds to that agent.
