Default Parameters for VsEvtLogTest

The VsEvtLogTest reports statistical information about the application events generated by the target virtual host. This page depicts the default parameters that need to be configured for the VsEvtLogTest.

  • The TEST PERIOD list box helps the user to decide how often this test needs to be executed.

  • The eG agent can either use WMI to extract event log statistics or directly parse the event logs using event log APIs. If the USEWMI flag is YES, then WMI is used. If not, the event log APIs are used. This option is provided because on some Windows 2000 systems (especially ones with service pack 3 or lower), the use of WMI access to event logs can cause the CPU usage of the WinMgmt process to shoot up. On such systems, set the USEWMI parameter value to NO.

  • In the LOGTYPE text box, specify the type of event logs to be monitored. The default value is Virtual Server.

  • While configuring this test for a specific component, you will have the following options:

    • Manually specify the event sources, IDs, and descriptions to be monitored, or,
    • Select a filter policy within which the event sources, IDs and descriptions to be monitored have been pre-defined

If you want the first option to be the default selection for all MS Virtuals server that are managed subsequently, then set the POLICYFILTER flag to No. If you want the second option to be the default, then set the POLICYFILTER flag to Yes.

  • In the FILTER text box, mention the filter policy to be selected by default for all the MS Virtual servers managed henceforth.

  • The DD FREQUENCY refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated. The default is 1:1. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated every time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. Typically, detailed diagnosis frequencies are set globally, using the DIAGNOSIS CONFIGURATION page that appears when the Configure -> Diagnosis Settings menu sequence is followed. This global setting can be overridden at the test-level using the DD FREQUENCY parameter. To disable the detailed diagnosis capability for a test, you can set this parameter to none.
