eG Monitoring

Measures reported by OraListenerTest

The Oracle Database Listener is the database server software component that manages the network traffic between the Oracle database and the client. The Oracle Database Listener listens on a specific network port (default 1521) and forwards network connections to the database. The non-availability of the listener could therefore deny clients access to the database. In order to avoid such a situation, the administrator would have to continuously monitor the status of the listener, instantly identify issues hampering the listener's availability, and immediately initiate corrective measures. The OraListenerTest helps the administrator in this regard. At a pre-defined frequency, this test checks whether the Oracle Listener associated with a managed Oracle database instance is available or not, and reports the status to the eG manager.

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Status Whether the listener is currently available or not Boolean If the listener is available, then the value of this measure will be 1. If not, the value of this measure will be 0. In such a case, you might have to either start or reload the listener to get it up and running.
