Measures reported by AlcLucPwrSupplyTest

The Alcatel-Lucent switch comes with multiple redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. The primary and backup power supplies units are internal but removable to allow easier maintenance and replacement. The Alcatel-Lucent switch also supports power load-sharing for PoE between the primary and backup power supplies.

The power supply is crucial to the operation of the switch, it cannot function without a power supply. Administrators must be absolutely certain at all times that both power supplies are working perfectly. Any issue with the status of the power supply or current flowing through it could suggest a potential problem, and administrators would want to take corrective action to avoid switch failure. This is the reason it is absolutely important to monitor the switch for any potential issues with the power supply.

This test auto-discovers the power supply units in the Alcatel-Lucent switch and reports the statistics for each power supply. Using this test, administrators can easily identify if there is a problem with the power supply by looking at the status and current power measures. Based on the values of the measures, administrators can take corrective actions if there is any abnormality detected in any of the powers supply units before it can affect the functioning of the switch. This test reports both measures for all available power supply units.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for each power supply unit on the switch to be monitored.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
status Indicates the current status of each power supply unit in Alcatel-Lucent switch. String The values reported by this measure and its numeric equivalent are mentioned in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Power Failed 0
Power On 1
Unknown 4
Not Plugged in 7
Chassis in Power Save Mode 10
Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current status of this fan. The graph of this measure, however, represents the status of the fan using the numeric equivalents only.

currentPwr Indicates the current reading for the power usage of each Power Supply unit. Watts
