Measures reported by HPStOVTLPerfTest

VTL targets appear to the backup application as physically connected tape devices, with backup and recovery jobs managed in the same manner as with a physical tape device. These Virtual Tape Libraries enable administrators to more efficiently manage resources. However, if one/more Virtual Tape Libraries experience a processing bottleneck, I/O requests could not be processed quickly, thereby causing prolonged delays in data access for users. Administrators hence have to continuously track the I/O processing speed of the Virtual Tape Libraries, so that probable processing delays can be detected proactively and pre-emptively treated. The HPStOVTLPerfTest test helps administrators with this.

This test monitors the overall performance of the Virtual Tape Libraries on the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system, by reporting the I/O processing capability of the VTLs. This test helps administrators in identifying processing bottlenecks (if any), so that the bottleneck is cleared before users complain of slowdowns. This test also reveals the files and directories that can be concurrently opened on the VTLs.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the target HPE StoreOnce Backup system being monitored

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
readThroughput Indicates the rate at which data was read from the Virtual Tape Libraries. MB/Sec A consistent drop in this value could indicate a gradual dip in the rate at which read requests are processed.
writeThroughput Indicates the rate at which data was written to the Virtual Tape Libraries. MB/Sec A consistent drop in this value could indicate a gradual dip in the rate at which write requests are processed.
openFDCount Indicates the average number of files and directories that can be concurrently opened. Number
