Measures reported by CmvltJobSmryTest

Jobs are placed in a job controller and run when resources are available. If the jobs in the job queue are not processed quickly, it would result in an overload condition characterized by long-winding job queues thus leading to the slowdown of the Commvault Backup server. In the event of such abnormalities, administrators will have to instantly figure out the count of jobs that are pending / queued / waiting. The CmvltJobSmryTest test helps administrators in this regard.

This test reports the total number of jobs executing on the target Commvault Backup server. In addition, this test reveals the number of jobs that are pending / waiting and those that are queued. Administrators can use this test to further analyze on why the jobs are pending / waiting in queue for a duration longer than usual.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the target Commvault Backup server that is to be monitored.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Running_job Indicates the number of jobs that are currently running on the backup server. Number
Pending_job Indicates the number of jobs that are currently pending on the backup server. Number A high value indicates that the backup server is unable to process the jobs. This may be due to performance issues, endlessly running jobs etc.
Waiting_job Indicates the number of jobs that are waiting for another job to complete on the backup server. Number A high value for this measure is an indication of an endlessly running job which needs to be terminated failing which there may be a performance bottleneck.
Queued_job Indicates the number of jobs that are queued for execution. Number Queued jobs could be run immediately or may be scheduled to run at a later time.
Suspended_job Indicates the number of jobs that were suspended. Number
Total_job Indicates the total number of jobs in the Backup server. Number
