Measures reported by SynNasFanTest

Fans ensure that the temperature of the core components of the Synology NAS storage system are well-within operational limits. There are two types of fans available in the storage system:

  • System Fan: System Fan is used for cooling the Synology NAS storage system.

  • CPU Fan: CPU Fan is used for cooling the processor.

If the fans suddenly stop running, then the temperature core hardware components of the storage system may soar causing serious damage. This is why, it is a good practice to keep track of the fan status using the SynNasFanTest test.

Outputs of the test :One set of the results for the target Synology NAS storage system that is being monitored.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Sys_fan_status Indicates the current state of the internal fan.   The values that this measure can report and their corresponding numeric values are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Normal 1
Failed 2

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values listed in the table to indicate the current state of the internal fan. The graph of this measure however is represented using the numeric equivalents only.

Cpu_fan_status Indicates the current state of the CPU fan.   The values that this measure can report and their corresponding numeric values are tabulated below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Normal 1
Failed 2

Note:

By default, this measure reports the above-mentioned Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the current state of the CPU fan. The graph of this measure however is represented using the numeric equivalents only.
