Measures reported by HiVSPSMStTest Shared memory resides by default on the first pair of cache boards in controller chassis. The usage of the shared memory increases when you install software features such as Copy-On-Write Snapshot or the Universal Replicator. The shared memory on each cache board contains 1 or 2 GB cache directory to safeguard write pending data in the cache if there is an unlikely case of double failure of the shared memory cache area. If the shared memory is running out of space or if there are too many write pendings to the shared memory, then data synchronization may take time resulting in poor accessibility of the data as well as data loss. Administrators should therefore constantly monitor the status of the shared memory. The VSP Shared Memory Status test helps administrators in this regard. This test reports the current status of the shared memory of each RAID store on the storage device. The measures made by this test are as follows:
