Measures reported by EsxPortGroupTest

Port groups aggregate multiple ports under a common configuration and provide a stable anchor point for virtual machines connecting to labeled networks. Each port group is identified by a network label, which is unique to the current host. All members of a port group share common attributes like a VLAN tag. All members of a port group can see all of the packets sent by other members of this port group. A port group is always connected to a single vSwitch.

This test auto-discovers all the port groups connecting to each vSwitch on an ESX server, and reports the number and powered-on state of the VMs in the virtual network managed by every port group. Powered-off VMs in the virtual network can thus be quickly identified.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
Total_VMs Indicates the number of VMs in this port group. Number The detailed diagnosis of this measure reveals the names of the VMs in this port group.
Vms_powered_off Indicates the number of powered off VMs in this port group. Number The detailed diagnosis of this measure reveals the names of the powered off VMs.
Vms_powered_on Indicates the number of powered on VMs in this port group. Number The detailed diagnosis of this measure reveals the names of the powered on VMs.
