DASHBOARD SETTINGS : SERVICE ASSOCIATION While each operating system in an IT environment could support a multitude of services, only a few of these services would be essential for the functioning of the operating system as a whole, or the mission-critical applications that may be executing on it. Similarly, certain unnecessary services could also be executing on a system, greatly hampering its overall performance. The knowledge of the status of such services, is key for reducing system/application downtime and for improving system performance. This is why, the Home Page provides the SERVICE STATUS section using which you can quickly determine whether a 'critical' service is currently running or not, and on how many hosts. Typically, this section indicates the status of a default list of services for a chosen operating system. If required, you can override this default list to include/exclude more number of services. This can be achieved using the SERVICE ASSOCIATION page that appears when the menu sequence, Settings -> Dashboard -> Service Association, is followed. Once an Operating System is chosen from this page, the services that are associated with that OS will be listed in the DISASSOCIATED SERVICES list box. Similarly, the services that pre-exist in the SERVICE STATUS section will be displayed in the ASSOCIATED SERVICES list. To add a new service to the SERVICE STATUS section, first, select the service of interest from the DISASSOCIATED SERVICES list and click the Associate button therein. Similarly, to delete a service from the SERVICE STATUS section, choose the service to be removed from the ASSOCIATED SERVICES list and click the Disassociate button. Finally, click the Update button. Note: You cannot disassociate all the services from the ASSOCIATED SERVICES list. If you attempt to do so, the eG Enterprise system will automatically restore the default service list to the Service Status section. |
