Auto-configuring Configuration Tests
If the Configuration Management capability is newly enabled in the eG license - i.e., if it is enabled after the eG installation has been actively used for a while for performance monitoring, or after the eG manager is upgraded to v5.2 (or above) - then, sometimes, none of the Configuration tests may be visible in the eG administrative interface. The primary challenge for administrators therefore is to make sure that Configuration tests appear in the eG administrative interface. Once this is done, you will find that many of the Configuration tests appear as ‘unconfigured’, though they share test parameters with one/more Performance tests configured already. This compels administrators to manually configure each of the ‘unconfigured’ Configuraton tests, which can be both laborious and time-consuming!
In order to help administrators tackle all the challenges discussed above from a single, central interface, the eG Enterprise system offers a specialized AUTO CONFIGURE page. By default, this page will not be available for use in the eG administrative console. To make the page available, do the following:
- Edit the eg_services.ini file.
- Set the AutoConfigureEnabled flag in the [MISC_ARGS] section of the file to yes. By default, this is set to No.
- Finally, save the file.
Then, follow the steps below to access the AUTO CONFIGURE page and use it effectively:
- Login to the eG administrative interface.
- A new Auto Configure menu option will now appear in the Agents -> Tests -> Configure menu sequence.
- Selecting the Auto Configure option will open the AUTO CONFIGURE page.
- Indicate the operation you want to perform in the page by picking an option from the What would you like to do? list. For instance, if you have newly enabled the Configuration Management capability, but are unable to view the Configuration tests, then, pick the Enable all configuration tests (If ‘Configuration Management’ capability is recently enabled) option from the What would you like to do? list. Then, click the Update button. This will automatically display all available Configuration tests in the test configuration page, thereby enabling you to review the configuration and change it (if required).
- Likewise, if you have upgraded the eG manager to v5.2 (or above) and enabled the Configuration Management capability post the upgrade, then again, the Configuration tests may not be visible. In this case therefore, select the Enable all configuration tests (For an upgraded manager) option from the What would you like to do? list and click the Update button.
- Now, say that the Configuration tests are visible in the test configuration page, but most of these tests appear as ‘unconfigured’, even though they share test parameters with one/more pre-configured Performance tests. To auto-configure such Configuration tests, select the Configure the enabled configuration tests option from the What would you like to do? list, and then click the Update button.
Note:
Alternatively, open the browser, and hit the following URL to auto-configure Configuration tests that take the same input parameters as one/more configured Performance tests:
