Upload/Delete SNMP MIBs

eG Enterprise provides an Integration Console using which administrators can add custom monitoring capabilities to the eG Enterprise suite. For instance, to monitor a new network device or application, administrators can use the Integration Console to define new test functionality, configure the measures to be reported by the tests, and also build the layer model for the device/application.

One of the monitoring modes supported by the Integration Console is SNMP. In other words, one can use the Integration Console to add new SNMP-based tests and measures into the eG Enterprise system for monitoring SNMP-enabled applications that are not supported "out-of-the-box" by the eG Enterprise suite. While defining the measures to be reported by an SNMP-based test, eG Enterprise requires that every measure be associated with an OID.

Typically, to determine the OID of an object, administrators need to open the SNMP MIB file of the target application/device, and perform an "snmp-walk" on the MIB tree. As effective as this procedure might be, it also involves significant time and labor. In order to save administrators the trouble of manually deducing the OID, eG Enterprise bundles a special MIB browser into the Integration Console, using which the SNMP MIB file of interest can be opened on-the-fly and browsed online; besides being easy to use, this MIB browser also helps administrators to quickly and accurately determine the OID.

To use the MIB browser, the MIB files of interest to administrators should first be uploaded to the eG manager. In order to enable administrators to upload MIB files, the eG administrative interface provides a DELETE AND UPLOAD MIB FILES page. To access this page, click on the icon available in the Admin tab. Then, select the Upload MIB option from the Receivers and Settings sub-menu in the SNMP Traps tile. To upload MIB files using this page, do the following:

  • To upload a MIB file, first, click on the Upload MIB Files button at the right top corner of this page.

  • In the popup window that then appears, specify the full path to the MIB file to be uploaded. The Browse button can be used for quickly locating the MIB file.

  • Then, click the Upload button in the popup window.

  • If upload is successful, you will return to this page, where the newly uploaded file will be listed.

  • Similarly, multiple MIB files can be uploaded to the eG manager, one after the other.

  • To delete a MIB file, click on the Delete icon .
