Configuration of CtxXcXDDSTest

Controllers in a site query the data stores for configuration, monitoring and logging information when attempting to come online/run services/troubleshooting issues. If the data store from which the controller seeks information from is unavailable or is inaccessible for long hours, controllers will be remain offline or will not be able to run the services/troubleshoot, thus denying users access to virtual desktops in the site. Also, the Delivery Controller may not be able to deliver services to users in time, which will adversely degrade user experience. To avoid this, administrators can run the CtxXcXDDSTest test at frequent intervals, check whether/not the data store is running, and in this way, detect failures before users complain.

The default parameters associated with this test are:

  • The TEST PERIOD list box helps the user to choose how often should the test be executed.

  • In the HOST text box, specify the IP address of the target Citrix Delivery Controller that is being monitored.

  • In the PORT text box, specify the port at which the specified host listens. By default, this is 80.

  • In order to monitor the target Delivery Controller 7, eG requires a special user with the following privileges;

    • The All scope and read-only privileges

    • The Allow log on locally security privilege on the Delivery Controller host

    The steps for assigning such privileges to a user are discussed in the Pre-requisites for monitoring the Citrix Delivery Controller 7.x. Specify the name of such a user in the USERNAME.

  • Specify the password in the PASSWORD text box, for the user specified in the USERNAME text box.

  • Confirm the password by retyping it in the CONFIRM PASSWORD text box.

  • Specify the domain in the DOMAIN text box, to which the user specified in the USERNAME text box belongs to.

  • The DD FREQUENCY refers to the frequency with which detailed diagnosis measures are to be generated for this test. The default is 6:1. This indicates that, by default, detailed measures will be generated very time this test runs, and also every time the test detects a problem. You can modify this frequency, if you so desire. Also, if you intend to disable the detailed diagnosis capability for this test, you can do so by specifying none against DD FREQUENCY.

  • The DETAILED DIAGNOSIS makes diagnosis more efficient and accurate, the eG Enterprise embeds an optional detailed diagnostic capability. With this capability, the eG agents can be configured to run detailed, more elaborate tests as and when specific problems are detected. To enable the detailed diagnosis capability of this test for a particular server, choose the On option. To disable the capability, click on the Off option. The option to selectively enable/disable the detailed diagnosis capability will be available only if the following conditions are fulfilled:

    • The eG manager license should allow the detailed diagnosis capability
    • Both the normal and abnormal frequencies configured for the detailed diagnosis measures should not be 0
  • If multiple components of the same component type are awaiting configuration, then an APPLY TO OTHER COMPONENTS check box will appear in this page. Clicking on this check box will allow you to apply the configuration to all/selected components of that type.

  • Once the above values are provided, click on the UPDATE button to register the changes made.

When changing default configurations of tests, the values with “$” indicate variables that will be replaced by the eG system according to the specific server being managed - for instance, $hostName is the host/nickname of the target host, $port is the port number of the server being monitored. E.g., for a server xyz:80, $hostName will be changed automatically by the eG manager to “xyz*” and $port will be changed to “80” when configuring a test.
