Measures reported by HanaLicUsageTest

License keys are required to use SAP HANA Database. The SAP HANA database supports two kinds of license key.

  • Temporary License Key

  • Permanent License Key

New installations of SAP HANA are equipped with a temporary license that expires after 90 days. To keep the system functional after this period, you have to install a permanent license. Improper licensing may lead to a lockdown of your SAP HANA system. Furthermore Permanent License specify the amount of memory licensed to the target SAP HANA installation. Based on that, the Permanent Licence Key are of two types: unenforced and enforced. If an unenforced license key is installed, the operation of SAP HANA is not affected if its memory consumption exceeds the licensed amount of memory. However, if an enforced license is installed, the system is locked down when the current memory consumption of SAP HANA exceeds the licensed amount of memory plus some tolerance. Therefore, it is very crucial to keep a vigil on the license type, expiration date and memory consumption to avoid a system lockdown.

This test auto-discovers the SAP HANA license key and reports whether/not the license is permanent.This test also monitors the memory usage of the database and proactively alert administrator when the used memory is near to the licensed memory limit. This inturn help them to avert slowdowns or potential sytem lockdowns.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate whether/not a license is permanent. In the graph of this measure however, the same is indicated using the numeric equivalents only.
ExpiryDays Indicates expiration date of the validity period of the license Minutes

Lower the value of this measure, sooner a product's licenses will expire.

If this value is very low, it implies that license will expire very soon. To continue using the product, you will have to renew the license.
MaxAllocatedMemry Indicates the amount of main memory as specified by the license. GB

 
UsedMemory Indicates the amount of main memory utilized by the target database server. GB

If Used Memory is near the Maximum memory limit, HANA database may run out of memory if it can't free resources.
UsedPercentage Indicates the percentage of maximum licensed memory utilized. Percent

A low value is desired for this measure. A value close to 100% is a cause for concern.
