eG Monitoring

Measures reported by EgMgrCertUsageTest

eG Licenses governs overall functioning of the eG manager and eG agents. The license optionally enables or disables specific manager capabilities and imposes limits on the extent of monitoring that can be performed by the eG agents. eG Enterprise offers the following types of licenses:

  • Server-based licenses.

    • OS Monitor

    • Virtualization monitor

    • Application Monitor

    • External Monitor

  • User/desktop-based licenses.

    • Named user/desktop licensing

    • Concurrent user/desktop licensing

Periodically, administrators should track how licenses are utilized in the target environment, so as to optimize license usage and to plan for growth. This can be achieved using the EgMgrCertUsageTest!

This test monitors the usage of the types of server and user based licenses, and alerts administrators if the organization is fast running out of any license type. Based on these insights, administrators can determine which licenses are to be replenished quickly to ensure uninterrupted monitoring of the target environment.

This test reports the license type that is being utilized in the target environment and statistics related to license utilization. In the process, the test highlights the following:

  • The total number of monitors allowed by the license type;

  • The number of basic and premium monitors utilized in the environment;

  • The number of servers, applications, services, segments and network devices monitored using the reported license type;

  • The number of eG agents;

  • The number of virtual desktop users allowed by each license type and the number of virtual desktop user licenses consumed and available for use;

  • The number of O365 users/endpoint/thin client licenses allowed by each license type and the number of same licenses consumed and available for use;

  • The number of days by which the licenses of each type will expire.

Outputs of the test : One set of results for the target eG manager being monitored.

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
LicenseType Indicates the type of the eG monitoring license.   The values that this measure reports and the numeric values that correspond to them have been discussed in the table below:

Measure Value Numeric Value
Server Based 0
Server & Named Users Based 1
Server & Concurrent Users Based 2

Note:

By default, this measure reports the Measure Values listed in the table above to indicate the license type of the manager. In the graph of this measure however, the same will be represented using the numeric equivalents only.

TotalMonitorsAllowed Indicates the total number of eG monitors allowed for the license type. Number
TotalMonitors Indicates the number of eG monitors consumed in the target environment. Number
TotalMonitorsFree Indicates the number of eG monitors available for use. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
PremiumMonitorAllowed Indicates the total number of premium monitors allowed by the license type. Number
PremiumMonitor Indicates the number of premium monitors consumed in the target environment. Number A low value is preferred for this measure.
PremiumMonitorFree Indicates the number of premium monitors available for use. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
BasicMonitorsAllowed Indicates the total number of basic monitors allowed by the license type. Number
BasicMonitors Indicates the number of basic monitors consumed in the target environment. Number A low value is preferred for this measure.
BasicMonitorsFree Indicates the number of basic monitors available. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
VDIUsersAllowed Indicates the total number of virtual desktop users allowed by the license type. Number
VDIUsers Indicates the number of virtual desktop user licenses consumed in the target environment. Number A low value is preferred for this measure.
VDIUsersFree Indicates the number of virtual desktop user licenses available for use in the target environment. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
ExternalAgents Indicates the total number of external agents used in the target environment. Number
MonitoredTargets Indicates the total number of targets monitored in the target environment. Number
Applications Indicates the number of applications monitored in the target environment. Number
NetworkDevices Indicates the total number of network devices monitored in the target environment. Number
Segments Indicates the total number of segments monitored in the target environment. Number
Services Indicates the total number of services monitored in the target environment. Number
MonitorUsers Indicates the total number of targets monitored in the target environment. Number
LicenseExpiry Indicates the number of days by which the license will expire. Days A very low value for this measure indicates that the license is nearing expiry. You may have to request for a license extension if you want to continue monitoring the target components.

If the value of this measure is 9999, it indicates that the license type has no expiry.

EPULicenseAllowed Indicates the total number of Endpoint/Thin client licenses allowed by the license type. Number
EPULicenseConsumed Indicates the number of premium monitors consumed in the target environment. Number A low value is preferred for this measure.
EPULicenseAvailable Indicates the number of premium monitors available for use. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
O365LicenseAllowed Indicates the total number of premium monitors allowed by the license type. Number
O365LicenseConsumed Indicates the number of premium monitors consumed in the target environment. Number A low value is preferred for this measure.
O365LicenseAvailable Indicates the number of premium monitors available for use. Number Ideally, a high value is preferred for this measure.
