Measures reported by RadADServFrmTest

This test auto-discovers the web farms in the target Radware AppDirector, and reports statistics like SNMP errors, HTTP session requests etc. for each web farm. Triangulation requests are received, answered, and redirected so as to provide the ability to send server’s responses directly to the client. Sending responses that way reduces the number of hops through which the reply packet passes, improving the response time. In addition, the traffic passing through AppDirector is reduced, since most incoming requests are rather small and outbound traffic represents the bulk of data exchanged between clients and servers. So, when a new request for service arrives, AppDirector selects the best server for the required service and the response from server to client, however, is sent directly to the client, without passing through AppDirector. The client can be located on the same network as AppDirector and the server, or it can be located behind the router. Using this test, administrators can identify if there is a malfunction or if there is a problem with incoming or outgoing data on each web farm. By taking corrective actions, administrators can avert problems from cascading through the web farm network.

Outputs of the test: One set of results for each web farm configured on the target Radware Appdirector that is to be monitored.

Descriptor: Web Farm

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
dnsReqArr Indicates the number of DNS requests received by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

This measure is a good indicator of load on the web farm.

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of DNS requests.

dnsReqAns Indicates the number of DNS requests that were answered by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

A low value indicates that there are traffic issues in the web farm.

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that is poor in answering the DNS requests received.

dnsReqRSer Indicates the number of DNS requests that were redirected to a remote server from this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

DNS requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.

httpArr Indicates the number of HTTP sessions that were received by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

This measure is a good indicator of load on the web farm.

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of HTTP requests.

httpLSer Indicates the number of HTTP sessions that were directed to a local server by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

HTTP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a local server in order to balance the load.

httpRSer Indicates the number of HTTP sessions that were redirected to remote server by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

HTTP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.

triReqArr Indicates the number of triangulation requests received by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

There are two modes of triangulation. To handle the distribution of IP protocols (for example, TCP or UDP), and when other redirection methods cannot be used, Global Triangulation redirection is used. Local Triangulation mode provides the ability to send server’s responses directly to the client. Requests are triangulated in order to improve network stability and reduce the number of hops and improve response time.

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of triangulation requests.

triReqAns Indicates the number of triangulation requests that were answered by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that is poor in answering the triangulation requests received.

triReqRSer Indicates the number of triangulation requests redirected to a remote server from this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

Triangulation requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.

rtspReqArr Indicates the number of RTSP (Real Time Streaming protocol) requests received by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of RTSP requests.

rtspReqLSer Indicates the number of RTSP requests that were redirected to a local server from this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

RTSP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a local server in order to balance the load.

rtspReqRSer Indicates the number of RTSP requests that were redirected to a remote server from this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

RTSP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.

sipReqArr Indicates the number of SIP requests that were received by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of SIP requests.

sipReqLSer Indicates the number of SIP requests that were redirected to a local server during the last measurement period. Number

SIP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a local server in order to balance the load.

sipReqRSer Indicates the number of SIP requests that were redirected to remote servers by this web farm during the last measurement period. Number

SIP requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.

proxyArr Indicates the number of Proxy (Client NAT redirection)) requests received by this farm during the last measurement period. Number

Proxy requests are the ones whose IPs are masked.

Compare the value of this measure across web farms to identify the web farm that received maximum number of proxy requests.

proxyLSer Indicates the number of Proxy (Client NAT redirection) requests received by this farm and were redirected to a local server during the last measurement period. Number

proxy requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a local server in order to balance the load.

proxyRSer Indicates the number of Proxy (Client NAT redirection) received by this farm and were redirected to remote servers during the last measurement period. Number

Proxy requests that are received beyond the capacity of the web farm is redirected to a remote server in order to balance the load.
