Measures reported by RADLBSPCPUTest

SP (Switch Processor) is the processor on a Radware Alteon load balancer that is responsible for load balanced traffic. A sudden/steady increase in load balanced traffic can cause the CPU usage of the SP to increase. If usage increases beyond permissible limits, it could mean that a single SP is probably handling more traffic than it should. To avoid overloading, its best to track the CPU usage of each SP over time, and promptly identify if one/more SPs are consuming more CPU than the rest. This is possible using the Switch Processor CPU Utilization test!

This test monitors how every SP is using CPU resources and points administrators to that SP, which is consuming CPU excessively. Additionally, the test also reveals if the CPU usage spike was just a one-off occurrence or whether CPU has been spiking consistently over time. This way, the test reveals if an SP experienced sudden surge in traffic or has been handling high traffic levels for some time.!

Outputs of the test : One set of results for each SP supported by the Radware Alteon load balancer being monitored.

Descriptor of the test : Switch Processor

The measures made by this test are as follows:

Measurement Description Measurement Unit Interpretation
cpuUtil1Sec Indicates the percentage of CPU utilized by the SP during the last second. Percent A value over 80% is a cause for concern as it indicates excessive CPU usage by the SP of the load balancer during the last second.
cpuUtil4Sec Indicates the percentage of CPU utilized by the SP during the last 4 seconds. Percent A value over 80% is a cause for concern as it indicates that the SP has been over-utilizing CPU resources for over 4 seconds. This further implies that CPU usage has been consistently abnormal. You may want to investigate and determine the type of load-balanced traffic that could have caused this usage excess.
cpuUtil64Sec Indicates the percentage of CPU utilized by the SP during the last 64 seconds. Percent A value over 80% is a cause for concern as it indicates that the SP has been over-utilizing CPU resources for over 64 seconds. This further implies that CPU usage has been high for over one minute. You may want to investigate and determine the type of traffic that could have caused this usage excess.
