Checking the Frequency of Aggregate Tests
Whenever a test is aggregated, the eG Enterprise system automatically computes the frequency of the aggregated test on the basis of the frequencies set for the corresponding ‘individual’ test in each (individual) component that is associated with the aggregate component to which that test applies.
- The aggregate test frequency that eG Enterprise recommends (and automatically sets) will typically be higher than (or equal to) the maximum frequency of the underlying ‘individual test’ across all the associated components. For instance, say that a Generic Aggregate component named, genagg, is associated with a gen-a and a gen-b server, and the Processes test for these two components is aggregated as a Processes Aggregate test. Say that the frequency of Processes test for gen-a has been set as 3 minutes and for gen-b as 5 minutes. In this case therefore, the eG Enterprise system will recommend that the Processes Aggregate test be run at a frequency higher than (or equal to) 5 minutes.
If for some reason, you modify the default/specific configuration of the aggregate test using the Test Configuration page, and set the Test Period to be lower than the ‘recommended test frequency’, it may impact test execution and most importantly, the aggregate measures reported by the test. To avoid this, the eG Enterprise system provides a special interface, which not only warns you of inconsistencies (if any) in the configuration of the frequency of aggregate tests related to a specific aggregate component, but also recommends the test period that should be set to ensure the proper execution of the test.
To access this page, click on the icon available in the Admin tab. Then, select the Configure Aggregates option from the Tests sub-menu in the Agents tile. The Update aggregate test period page will then appear. Select an aggregate Component type and a particular aggregate component of that type from the Component name list. If all aggregate tests associated with the chosen aggregate component are running in the recommended test period, then the Update aggregate test period will indicate the same by displaying a message to that effect.
On the other hand, if irregularities are noticed in the aggregate test frequency, then Update aggregate test period will appear indicating the test which is not running in the recommended test period.
Also, against the test name the Recommended Test Period for that test will be indicated. You can change this by picking a different frequency from the drop-down list. To update the changes, select the check box that precedes the aggregate test for which the test frequency has to be reset with the Recommended Test Period chosen from Update aggregate test period, and click the Update button.
