Creating an Aggregate Component Using the Components that are Part of a Segment/Service/Zone/Component Group
If you want to aggregate the components of a type that are included as part of a segment/service/zone/component group, then expand the corresponding node in the tree and click on the segment/service/zone/component group of interest to you.
For instance, to create an aggregate component using the (individual) components of a type in a segment, do the following:
- Expand the Segments node in the tree structure and click on the segment of interest to you from the ADD/MODIFY AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page.
- Depending upon the types of (non-aggregate) components that are part of the chosen segment, the eG Enterprise system automatically identifies the aggregate component types that can be created using those components and displays the same in the right panel.
Note:
If a segment/service/zone/component group already includes an aggregate component, then the corresponding aggregate component type will not be listed in the SEGMENT/SERVICE/ZONE/COMPONENT GROUP AGGREGATES page.
- To create an aggregate component of one of the listed types, say a segment, click on the Add button corresponding to that type in the SEGMENT AGGREGATES page. The AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page will then appear prompting you to add a new aggregate component. Provide a Nick name for the aggregate component and assign a Remote Agent to it using this page.
- All the ‘individual’ segment components that are of the (non-aggregate) type that corresponds to the chosen Aggregate component type will be automatically displayed in the ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS list - i.e., will be automatically associated with the Aggregate component type. For instance, when creating an IIS Web Aggregate component, all components in the chosen segment that are of type IIS Web will be automatically associated with the IIS Web Aggregate component. You can disassociate one/more of these components by selecting them from the ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS list and clicking the Disassociate button. To add them back to the aggregate component, select them from the DISASSOCIATED COMPONENTS list and click the Associate button.
- To add the newly created aggregate component, click the Add button.
- Click the Add/Modify Aggregate Components link in the result page that appears to switch to the ADD/MODIFY AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page.
- To modify an existing aggregate component, click on the Modify button corresponding to it.
- In the same manner, you can create aggregate components from services, zones, or component groups.
- When creating an aggregate component from a zone, you can automatically associate the component being added to that zone. For this, while creating the aggregate component, you will have to select the Auto-associate this component to the zone <zone_name> flag to Yes.
- Every aggregate component type so created is automatically associated with a default set of tests. To view the tests that are available by default for a particular aggregate component type and the measures they report, click on the Click here link in the Click here to get tests and measures for <Aggregate_Component_Type> label.
Also, when creating aggregate components from segments/services/zones/component groups, you can save yourselves the trouble of adding the aggregate components one at a time. Instead, you can simultaneously add multiple components - one of each aggregate component type - that can be supported by the segment/service/zone/component group that is chosen.
For instance, to create multiple aggregate components from the (individual) components of a segment at one shot, do the following:
- Expand the Segments node in the tree structure and click on the segment of interest to you in the SEGMENT AGGREGATES page.
- Depending upon the types of (non-aggregate) components that are part of the chosen segment, the eG Enterprise system automatically identifies the aggregate component types that can be created using those components and displays the same in the right panel.
- To simultaneously add aggregate components of two/more types listed in the right panel, select the types of interest to you by clicking on the check boxes that pre-fix the type names. Then, click the Add All button in this page. The ADD AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page will then appear.
- For every aggregate component type that is chosen from the SEGMENT AGGREGATES page, a component will be created in the ADD AGGREGATE COMPONENT page with a default Nick name and Remote Agent. You can change the nick name and remote agent specifications of the aggregate components if you so desire. Finally, click the Add All button in the ADD AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page.
- Doing so will automatically add all the aggregate components configured using the ADD AGGREGATE COMPONENTS page. Each aggregate component so added will automatically include all the (individual) components in the chosen segment that are of the corresponding (non-aggregate) type.
- If, upon clicking the Add All button, the eG Enterprise system could not add one/more configured aggregate components, then the resulting page will indicate the same along with reasons thereof.
- In the same manner, you can create multiple aggregate components from services, zones, or component groups. While creating multiple aggregate components at one shot from a zone, you can also auto-associate all the aggregate components so created to that zone in a single click. To achieve this, you will have to select the Auto-associate all components of below types to zone <zone_name> check box in Zone Aggregates-New Zone page, then select the aggregate component types to be added to the zone, and finally, click the Add All button.
