Default Thresholds By default, thresholds apply to all components of a chosen type. If you wish to configure the threshold values for the measures of a specific test that pertains to the chosen component type, do the following: To set the threshold values, follow the menu sequence: Admin -> Alerts -> Thresholds -> Default -> Test. The DEFAULT THRESHOLDS page will then appear. In the DEFAULT THRESHOLDS page, select the Component type to which the default thresholds apply and then pick the Test name for which the default thresholds need to be configured. The host level tests and the component specific tests will be populated in the Test name list box in two separate sections i.e., the host level tests will be listed under the For Host section and the component specific tests will be listed under the chosen component type. For example, if you choose Citrix XenApp 7.x as the Component type, then the tests applicable only for that component type will be listed under the Citrix XenApp 7.x section All measures related to the chosen test will then be listed. While some measures of a test may be pre-configured with thresholds, some may not be associated with any thresholds at all. Accordingly, the measure list will be split into two sections – Measures with thresholds and Measures without thresholds. Each measure in the Measures with thresholds section will be accompanied by its current threshold configuration and alarm policy setting. You can change these configurations by clicking the Note: Changes made to the default thresholds of a test will automatically apply to all component types with which that test is associated. Therefore, exercise caution while making changes to these threshold settings. If you want to define thresholds for a measure in the Measures without thresholds section, simply click on that measure name in that section. If Default Thresholds are configured for an application-level test, then such thresholds will govern the state of that test for the chosen application-type alone - for instance, if you configure Default Thresholds for say, the Tomcat Applications test mapped to the Tomcat component type, then, these thresholds will automatically apply to the Tomcat Applications test of all managed components of type Tomcat alone. On the contrary, if you override the Default Thresholds of an active host-level test, then these thresholds will automatically apply to all managed component-types to which that test is mapped. For instance, say you select Tomcat as the Component type list box and proceed to configure the default threshold for the Disk Space test by choosing that test from the Test name list box of that page. Also, assume that you have additionally managed an Oracle Database and a Microsoft SQL server in your environment. Now, since the Disk Space test is mapped to the Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL components as well, the Default Thresholds that you set for the Disk Space test of the Tomcat component type, will automatically apply to the Disk Space tests of the Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL component types as well.Once you have chosen a test from the Test name list box, this page will list all the measures that are applicable for that test. By default, some of the measures that are displayed in this page will be pre-configured with the threshold limits based on industry standard practices. Such threshold values will be displayed against each measure. If the thresholds have been pre-configured, then from this page you can identify whether the maximum threshold or minimum threshold is set for the measures, view the thresholds of the measures along with the threshold policy. If no thresholds have been set for the measures by default, then such measures will be listed under the Measures without thresholds section. Clicking on the measure from this page will lead you to the page where you can configure the threshold values of your choice. To know more on how to configure the default thresholds, click here.
