Associating a threshold rule with a threshold component group(s)
This page appears when the Associate button in the Threshold Rules page is clicked, and allows administrators to associate specific threshold component groups with a configured threshold rule.
To associate threshold component groups with a threshold rule, do the following:
Select a rule name from the Choose rule to associate/disassociate threshold component group list box. If you reach this page while navigating from the Agents - Thresholds page, then this list box will display only those threshold rules that have been configured for the test chosen from the Agents - Thresholds page. On the other hand, if you reach this page by clicking on the icon availabe in the Admin tab, then selecting the Groups option from the Thresholds sub menu of the Alert tile, then this list box will display all the existing threshold rules (if any) that are registered with the eG Enterprise system, regardless of test type.
By default, the Apply this rule to list box will have the All Descriptors option chosen, indicating that by default, the chosen rule will be applied to all the descriptors that have been enabled for the test under consideration. To ensure that the threshold settings defined in the rule govern the behavior of specific descriptors only, select the Specific Descriptors option from the Apply this rule to list box. This way, administrators are saved the trouble of manually repeating the threshold configurations for every descriptor of a test.
Next, select the component group from the Disassociated Component Groups list, and click the Associate ( ) icon to assign the chosen threshold rule to the selected component group.
When this is done, the selected component group will move to the Associated Component Groups list. To disassociate the component group from the rule, select it from the Associated Component Groups list and click the Disassociate ( ) icon.
Finally, click the Update button.
Note:
-
By default, a component can belong to only one component group at a time. Accordingly, the AllowComponentsInMultipleGroups flag in the [MISC_ARGS] section of the eg_services.ini file (in the {EG_INSTALL_DIR}\manager\config directory) is set to false by default. If you want to add a server to multiple server groups, then set the AllowComponentsInMultipleGroups flag to true. With this setting, it will be possible to define different server groups - e.g., one for each test - and to map this group to different threshold rules. A caveat to note is that when creating server groups, the administrator must explicitly take care to ensure that the same component is not associated with multiple threshold rules for the same test.
- If a threshold component group - threshold rule association is set with the Specific Descriptors option chosen, then it indicates that the selected threshold rule will apply to only specific descriptors of the test under consideration for the chosen group. For example, say, a threshold rule named WebProcThresh rule has been applied only to the Acrobat and Winword descriptors for the server group, Webservergroup. Assume that, subsequently, you wish to modify this association so that the WebProcThresh rule applies to all the descriptors for the Webservergroup. In order to achieve this, do the following:
-
To access this page, click on the
icon available in the Admin tab, then select the Group option from the Thresholds submenu of the Alerts tile.
- Click on the Associate button in the page that appears.
- Select WebProcThresh from the list box at the top of the page.
- The Specific Thresholds option will get selected automatically from the Apply this rule to list box.
- Also, the Webservergroup will be automatically displayed in the Associated Component Groups list.
- Remember that, at any given point in time, a threshold component group can be associated with either Specific Descriptors or All Descriptors, but not both. Therefore, in order to ensure that WebProcThresh applies to all the descriptors of ProcessTest for the Webservergroup, you will first have to disassociate the group from Specific Descriptors. Accordingly, select Webservergroup from the Associated Component Groups list, click on the Disassociate (
) icon, and finally Update the changes.
- Next, proceed to associate the Webservergroup once again with WebProcThresh, but this time with the All Descriptors option selected. To do so, first, select All Descriptors, then select Webservergroup from the Disassociated Component Groups list, click the Associate (
) icon, and finally Update the changes.
