Managing / Unmanaging Systems

Using the COMPONENTS - MANAGE/UNMANAGE page, administrators can manage/unmanage only those components that belong to a chosen type. In environments where a large number of components of varied types are to be managed/unmanaged, using the COMPONENTS - MANAGE/UNMANAGE page could prove to be time-consuming. eG Enterprise therefore offers the MANAGE/UNMANAGE SYSTEMS page that can be accessed by clicking the Manage/Unmanage By Systems button provided in the COMPONENTS - MANAGE/UNMANAGE page.

The MANAGE/UNMANAGE SYSTEMS page provides an environment-wide view of managed components, and groups together all those components that use the same host/nick name. When you select the host/nick name from Host / Nick Name drop-down menu, multiple components across the environment, regardless of component-type will be listed. This page also allows you to add more components using the Add New button. You can manage/unmanage more components using the steps given below.

To manage components using this page, follow the steps given below:

  • First, select the host / nick name to be managed from the Host / Nick name drop down menu in this page. All components that are currently managed using the chosen host/nick name will be listed in the Managed components list. Components newly discovered with the chosen host/nick name will appear in the Unmanaged components list. To manage a newly discovered element, select it from the Unmanaged components list and click the < button. This will transfer the selection to the Managed components list.

  • If the component that you want to manage is not auto-discovered by the eG Enterprise system, it will not appear in the Managed components list. In this case, you have the option to manually add that component to the eG Enterprise system. For this, once you select the Host/Nick Name of the component that you want to manage, click the Add New button therein. Then, you will be directed to the COMPONENTS page.

  • To add a new component with the chosen Host/Nick name, first select the Component type to which the new component belongs from the COMPONENTS page. Then, provide a Host IP/Name for the new component. This way, provide all other specifications that are relevant to the component, and click the Add button therein to add the new component. Remember that the components manually added are managed automatically.

    Note:

For complete details on how to manually add a new component using the eG administrative interface, refer to Administering eG Enterprise document.

To unmanage components, follow the steps given below:

  • Select the host/nick name to be unmanaged by clicking on the corresponding component name. All components that are currently managed using the chosen host/nick name will be listed in the Managed components list. If more than one component is managed using the same host/nick name, then the details of all such components are grouped under other components associated with corresponding nick name in this page. To unmanage the component, select it from the Managed components list and click the > button. This will transfer the selected component to the Unmanaged Components list. Note that at a time you can choose only one host/nick name from this page for unmanaging.

  • Then, click the Update button in this page to unmanage the selected component.
